History

The Gadsden County Chapter was re-chartered March 2013, under the helms of Rattler Anthony Powell. At that time Rattler Powell was the only life member and the chapter’s bylaws were updated to make lifetime membership a requirement for President to reflect a commitment to serve and act accordingly. Monthly meetings were held at Quincy City Hall, then were moved to university property at the FAMU Research & Farm Center. During this re-organization, officers were:

President, Rattler Anthony Powell

Vice-President, Rattler Ronald Colson

Treasurer, Rattler Amy Knight

Secretary, Rattler Cynthia Davis Holloway

Past Presidential pioneers were Rattlers Vivian Kelly, Reginald James, Gwendolyn Robinson, and Benita Rittman.

Activities included providing scholarships, sneakers for FAMU Women’s Basketball, hosting galas, bus trips to FAMU games, orange and green ribbons and a resolution for local fallen Rattlers, etc. The Gadsden County Chapter sponsored MLK Day in partnership with the National Hook-Up of Black Women Gadsden Chapter, Black History Parades in February, FAMU Farm Day with sodas, ice cream, and backpacks for the kids, as well as Homecoming Picnics.

Over time $10,000.00 was donated to the FAMU Foundation and Certificate of Incorporation was established in 2018.
